Landscaping

Most people seeing First Pres for the first time are struck by the park-like beauty of our church campus. Members and visitors alike enjoy the shade trees, flower gardens, bubbling fountain, and more than three acres of green space.

Our Property Committee has the job of maintaining our grounds — a program executed by church staff, local landscaping vendors, and our volunteer grounds crew of First Pres members, who are lovingly named the Yardbirds.

Our Yardbirds include members of all ages, genders, and talents. The one thing they have in common is love for our many trees, bushes, walkways and gardens.

Each month, the Yardbirds contribute approximately 40-50 person-hours of work to First Pres — trimming trees and bushes, edging grassy areas, weeding flower beds. There are usually two Yardbird work sessions scheduled each month — a Friday session (the favorite of retirees) and a Saturday session (the usual choice of for members who have weekday jobs). Yardbird sessions start with prayer, a joke or two, and a hearty breakfast.

The only requirement for becoming a Yardbird is that you have fun working as a gardener. For more information, call Chip Chagnon (636.2961) or complete the following form:
