Our Foundation

The First Presbyterian Church Foundation gives every church member an opportunity to support church ministry beyond his or her earthly life.

Our Foundation was established in 2004 by Session. It’s mission is to encourage and manage gifts, bequests and contributions that will be used to expand and enrich the ministry of the church both locally and globally. Gifts to the Foundation are not intended to replace the generous congregational giving needed to meet normal daily operating needs.

Gifts and bequests to the Foundation gifts grow in value and earnings. The Foundation provides a management system that protect and supervise the use of the funds. Each year the Foundation makes funds available to the church that can be spent to expand outreach, worship, Christian education, and property. The Foundation is administered by a ninemember Board composed of ordained elders and lay members of the congregation that are elected by the Session. Jim Briiley, church Treasurer, is an ex-officio member of the Board.

Donors Can Specify How Gifts Will be Used

The Foundation provides the donor with flexible choices regarding how their gifts will be used. The church encourages donors to designate that their gift be included in one or more of the following three funds:

  1. Outreach Fund – may be used for local, national, or world outreach programs not normally funded by the operating budget of the church. Funds may also be used to enhance existing outreach programs.
  2. Property Fund – may be used for extraordinary property maintenance, building renovation, or new construction not normally funded by the operating budget of the church.
  3. Worship/Christian Education Fund – may be used for Worship and Christian Education projects not normally funded by the operating budget of the Church.

A specifically designated fund can also be established and managed by the Foundation. A specifically designated fund allows the donor to designate the program or activity. Specifically designated funds are, however, required to meet certain Foundation minimum requirements.

There Are Different Ways to Make Gifts to the Foundation

For example:

  • An outright gift to the Foundation (i.e. cash or stock)
  • A bequest in a will
  • By naming the Foundation as a beneficiary (full or partial) of an IRA (Individual Retirement Account), 401 (k) plan, or other tax deferred account
  • By naming the Foundation as a beneficiary or partial beneficiary to a life insurance policy.

Gifts should be directed to the “First Presbyterian Church Foundation.” Gifts of any amount are welcome. Most gifts are tax deductible. All queries to and discussions with the Foundation’s Board will be maintained in the strictest confidence. You may send confidential email requests for more information to firstpresfoundation@esisnet.com
