“Faith seeking understanding” was the motto of Saint Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109), the Christian philosopher and theologian who created one of the most enduring “arguments” for the existence of God. Those same three words define the goals of First Pres’ Adult Christian Education Program. We strive to help faithful believers understand the foundations of their Christianity.
Our Adult Christian Ed program is broad and varied, including Men’s and Women’s Bible Study Classes, Adult Sunday School Classes, the Rothermel Foundation community education series, and special events and learning opportunities. The Adult Education Committee attempts to provide a balanced series of courses covering the following subject areas:
- The Bible
- The Church
- Christian Life
Each year’s course offerings include at least one course in each subject area, with the objective of providing, over the course of seasons and years, exposure to the Scriptures, to Reformed and Christian theology, and to the challenges of living as a Christian in the world. Some Adult Sunday School Classes are continuing classes, such as Homebuilders; Koinonia; and Peacemaking; others are subject matter based. All classes are open to everyone.
